Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: results, champion and story

Shanghai 2024 made a 17-year-old the most talked-about player in the world. Team Spirit beat FaZe Clan 2–1 in the final (13–8, 6–13, 13–11), and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, the youngest Major MVP since Kjaerbye at Atlanta 2017, was named MVP with the highest rating ever recorded at that time. The line-up of donk, chopper, sh1ro, zont1x and magixx was coached by hally. The event was the first Major organized by Perfect World, and the first since Rio 2022 with live audiences at every stage. Natus Vincere, the defending champions, were eliminated in the Elimination stage by HEROIC, and The MongolZ became the first Asian team to reach a Major playoff after beating HEROIC on December 6. The path to the playoffs had a rule controversy: Valve’s regional standings rule was changed mid-qualification, and Perfect World reverted to the Valve Regional Standings on November 22 during Europe RMR B.

Two 16-team Swiss-system group stages (Opening and Elimination), then an eight-team single-elimination Playoffs with best-of-three matches. 24 teams took part, and the prize pool was $1,250,000.
