The story of PGL Major Copenhagen 2024
The first Major of Counter-Strike 2 was the 20th Counter-Strike Major overall and the first one played with CS2’s 12-round halves. Natus Vincere, in a rebuilt line-up with Aleksib, iM, b1t, jL and w0nderful, beat FaZe Clan 2–1 in the final, and jL was named MVP. Defending champion Vitality were eliminated by FaZe in the semifinals. The tournament was also full of off-server incidents: Virtus.pro’s Jame had a game crash caused by an NVIDIA driver issue during a bracket match against G2, which cost his team its playoff spot and drew criticism of the event’s technical problems; in the G2 against MOUZ quarterfinal a spectator ran onto the stage and was tackled by security, damaging the trophy; and 9 Pandas were replaced by GamerLegion after reported visa issues. It also introduced the first "Newbie" stream aimed at viewers who did not know the game.
Format
An Opening stage (Swiss, 16 teams), an Elimination stage (Swiss, 16 teams), then an eight-team single-elimination Playoffs stage with best-of-three series. 24 teams took part, and the prize pool was $1,250,000.
