GTA VI releases on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything below is checked against Rockstar, Take-Two and major outlets as of October 30, 2026. Where something comes from media reports and not from Rockstar, we say so, and anything that is only a rumour is in its own section.
Key takeaways
- Confirmed: November 19, 2026 release, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Standard $79.99 and Ultimate $99.99, pre-load from November 12.
- Reported by media, not confirmed by Rockstar: a download size of about 210 GB and a PC version in early 2027.
- No online mode has been announced for launch. GTA Online for GTA V keeps running.
Confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two
When does it come out? November 19, 2026. Take-Two repeated that date on its earnings call, after two earlier delays. What platforms? PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. How much does it cost? The Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99; the Ultimate adds extra vehicles, weapons, clothing, tattoos, locations and missions. When can I pre-load? From November 12, 2026. Is the physical copy a disc? At launch the physical box contains a download code, and Rockstar said discs would follow later. Are there microtransactions? Rockstar said none are planned at launch. Where is it set? In the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City as the main city, and you play as Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.
Reported by the media
How big is the download? Reports on October 27 put the size at roughly 210 GB on both consoles, based on a store listing. Rockstar has not confirmed it, and a day-one patch could add more. What is the age rating? ESRB M (Mature 17+) and PEGI 18 in store listings. What frame rate? TechRadar reported that Rockstar confirmed 30 FPS at launch on consoles. How many people pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition? An analyst estimate said about 89 percent, but Take-Two has given no unit numbers.
Rumours that are not confirmed
Is there a PC version? No PC version has been announced. Industry sources told GamesBeat that PC could follow in early 2027, and Rockstar has not commented. When do discs arrive? One insider suggested December, but nothing official exists. Is there a new GTA Online? Nothing has been announced; a Bloomberg reporter wrote that Rockstar does not plan to discuss it soon. What about leaked maps and footage? Rockstar called the August leaks heartbreaking, but the authenticity of any leaked item is not confirmed, so treat it as unverified.
How confident are we? A table of claims
The word "confirmed" is used too loosely online. In the table we separate what the companies said from what outlets report and from what is only a rumour. Use it as a quick reference when you see a claim in a video or on social media.
Why reports differ from official facts
Many GTA VI details arrive through channels that are not official. Store listings sometimes publish a download size before the publisher does. Journalists attend hands-off previews and report what they were told, and insiders tell reporters about plans. Each of these can be right, but each can also be a placeholder or a misunderstanding. A number in a store listing can be a template value that changes later; a preview report depends on the memory and wording of the people involved. This is why we label the 210 GB size as a report: the figure came from a store listing, and Rockstar has not confirmed it, and a day-one patch could add to it.
How to check any claim in a minute
- Find the origin. Many posts repeat each other. Find the first one, and ask whether it names a real source.
- Go to the official channels. Rockstar's Newswire and the game page are the reference, and Take-Two's investor relations page covers the business side.
- Look for independent confirmation. Two outlets repeating the same unnamed source are still one source.
- Treat leaks as unverified. Rockstar called the August leaks heartbreaking, but nobody can verify a leaked item without the studio.
- Check the date. Old claims circulate again. Plans can change, and this game has been delayed twice.
What can still change the date?
Rockstar has moved the date twice, from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026 and then to November 19, 2026. Take-Two has repeated the current date on earnings calls. With launch weeks away and pre-loading scheduled for November 12, a further delay would be a major surprise. Still, any date can change until the game is out, and we say so on every page. Follow the release date page for updates, and see our timeline of the road to launch.
What to prepare before launch
- Storage. Even without an official size, plan for a very large download and free up space on your console.
- Network. Use a cable if you can and schedule the download on November 12.
- Account. Make sure your PlayStation or Xbox account and payment method are in order before the rush.
- Edition. Decide between Standard and Ultimate using our edition guide.
- Safety. Read the scams guide and buy only from official stores.
Scam patterns to recognize
| Pattern | Why it is fake |
|---|---|
| "GTA 6 PC download" or "early access" | No PC version is announced and no early access exists |
| Download with a huge file size | Rockstar has not published a size; malware uses large sizes as bait |
| Key generators and "free codes" | Codes come only from official stores |
| Login pages asking for console or Rockstar credentials | Phishing; use only official apps and sites |
| Paid access to leaks | Unverifiable and often a scam |
Frequently asked deeper questions
Why is there no PC version at launch? Rockstar listed only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and has not explained its plans for other platforms. Industry sources told GamesBeat that a PC version could follow in early 2027, but this is a report. Our PC guide explains what we know.
Is the game for children? It is rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB and 18 by PEGI in store listings. Our age rating guide and the parents guide explain what that means.
Who are the main characters? You play Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval in the fictional state of Leonida. See our characters page and the Jason and Lucia guide.
What does the map look like? Rockstar describes a state with Vice City as the main city. Details and regions are in our map and regions guide.
How to read a GTA 6 headline
Most confusion comes from the verbs in a headline, not from the facts. "Rockstar confirms" means a statement from the company. "Reportedly" or "according to sources" means a journalist is relaying something the company did not say publicly. "Leaked" means material that was never meant to be public, and "datamined" means someone extracted it from files, which for GTA VI is not possible with a game that has no public build. "Insider claims" is the weakest form, because the person making the claim often cannot be identified, and track records vary widely. When you see a number such as a price, a size or a frame rate, ask which of these verbs stands behind it.
Another trap is the recycled headline. A claim from 2024 about a "fall 2025 release" is still floating around social media, even though the game was delayed twice. A video thumbnail with a date and a red arrow can be a year old. Always look at the publication date, and if the post has none, assume it is stale.
Questions nobody can answer yet
Some of the most searched questions have no official answer today. Instead of guessing, it helps to know which ones are open, because any specific answer you find is by definition unverified. The table below lists them. We keep it updated, and when Rockstar publishes an answer we move the item to the confirmed section at the top of this page.
Where official information actually appears
There are only a few places where a real announcement can come from. The first is the Rockstar Games Newswire and the official GTA VI page, which hold trailers, edition lists and platform information. The second is Rockstar Support, where practical details such as preload dates are documented, which is where the November 12 preload date came from. The third is Take-Two Interactive, whose earnings calls and investor materials confirm timing and business facts, for example that the release date had not changed. The fourth is the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pages, which show editions and prices, but also sometimes show placeholder values, such as a size, so use them for prices and platforms and be careful with technical numbers.
Everything else is secondary: news sites, creators, forums and social accounts. Many of them do careful work and cite the primary source, and those are worth following. But the rule stays the same. If a claim can be traced to one of the four places above, it is solid. If not, it is a report or a rumour, and our labels tell you which.
Five common myths
- "The game is coming to PC at launch." No PC version is announced. A report mentioned early 2027, which remains unconfirmed.
- "The Ultimate Edition is a bigger game." Both editions contain the full game. The Ultimate adds bonus content.
- "Preload lets me play early." Preload only moves the download earlier. The game stays locked until launch.
- "GTA Online will be there on day one." Rockstar has made no such announcement, so any date or feature list is speculation.
- "I can get the game free with a code generator." Codes come from official stores. Generators and surveys are scams.
What this page does and does not claim
We checked the claims on this page against Rockstar, Take-Two, the PlayStation and Microsoft stores and major outlets on October 31, 2026. We do not claim that reported items are wrong; we claim that they are not confirmed. If you spot a newer official statement that changes something, treat that statement as the authority and expect us to update the page. The goal is not to be the first with a rumour, but to be the page you can trust in the final weeks before launch, when the volume of false claims is at its highest.
How to avoid fake news
Before you share a GTA VI claim, ask where it first appeared. Rockstar publishes on its Newswire and official site; everything else is a report. Fake download links, cheat tools and early-access offers are common and are often malware, so never enter console or Rockstar login details on a third-party site.
