For almost three years GTA VI lived in trailers. Then came "An Extended Look", a 26-minute gameplay showcase that turned the hype into something you could actually study frame by frame. Below we break down what Rockstar showed, what the magazine coverage added, and where the facts stop.
A premiere on Netflix, then YouTube
Rockstar did not just drop a video on its channel this time. The Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 and went up on YouTube afterwards. The Netflix numbers were huge: 31.1 million views that week.
One small but important detail: this was not officially called "Trailer 3". It is a gameplay showcase, and Rockstar named it "An Extended Look".
What the 26 minutes showed
The Extended Look was packed. Here are the confirmed gameplay moments from the showcase:
- Slow-motion aiming – gunfights can slow down while you line up your shot, giving fights a cinematic feel.
- Scuba diving – the water around Leonida is not just a backdrop. You can go under the surface.
- Fan boats – the classic swamp boat, perfect for the wetlands of a Florida-inspired state.
- Store robberies – small-scale crime is back, the kind of quick job that fits Lucia and Jason's story.
- Racing – racing appeared as an activity.
- Parachuting – yes, you can jump and glide down over the map.
- Vice City by day and night – the city was shown in bright daylight and under neon at night.
- A morality-style reward system – the footage hinted that your choices affect what you get. How deep this goes is not explained yet.
That last point is the one fans argue about most. Rockstar has not published rules for it, so treat any detailed "karma meter" explanations online as guesses.
Vice City, day and night
Vice City is the biggest city of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida. The Extended Look showed it in both daylight and at night, which is a big part of the city's identity since the 2002 original. Neon, beaches, traffic and crowds were all on screen.
Other regions of Leonida are known from the trailers and the official site, like the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Check our GTA 6 map guide for the full list of revealed places.
Live now: GTA VI
See all →Game Informer #382: the cover story
A month later, on September 29, 2026, Game Informer issue #382 ran GTA VI as its cover story. It added more topics to the list of confirmed systems and activities:
- Weather as part of the world
- A relationship system between characters
- Heists
- A reputation system
- Skydiving
- Basketball
- Scuba diving (again, so it is clearly a real feature)
The magazine names these topics, but the exact details of how each system works are still for the final game to reveal. Heists in particular are a big promise for a story about two partners in crime.
LOVE magazine #27: a glimpse of the story
On October 5, 2026, LOVE magazine issue #27 added a small story tease. Its GTA VI coverage includes the line "a home for the family and their debts paid off".
It is a short quote, but it fits what the trailers have told us about Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval: two people chasing a better life and getting pulled deeper into crime. Want to know more about them and the supporting cast? Read our GTA 6 characters guide.
