As launch gets closer, the same technical questions keep coming up. Here is the honest status of each, as of October 8, 2026.
Key takeaways
- Frame rate is reported as 30 FPS "for now", second-hand, with no confirmed 60 FPS or PS5 Pro mode.
- Rockstar has not published an install size, and any number online is a guess.
- Preload is planned for November 12, and it is not early access.
- Physical editions come as a download code, not a disc.
Frame rate: 30 FPS "for now"
TechRadar reports that Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told YouTuber Davy Jones that "the performance, for now, is 30 FPS." That is second-hand information (relayed through Flow Games), not a formal Rockstar statement. A 60 FPS option has not been confirmed, and nothing has been confirmed for PS5 Pro or other performance modes. The Extended Look footage was captured on a base PS5.
File size: unknown
Rockstar has not published an official install size. Numbers you see online are guesses, and fake downloads have been using huge file sizes as bait. A 113 GB "ISO" already turned out to be malware. Never trust a size you did not read on an official store page.
Preload: November 12
Pre-load is planned for November 12, a week before launch. According to GTA Intel, quoting official pre-order information, preload is not early access: you download the game, but you cannot play until launch day.
Physical copies
Physical editions come as a download code, not a disc, so you will download the game anyway.
PC and system requirements
Rockstar's page lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version is announced, so there are no PC system requirements. See GTA 6 on PC.
What to do now
- Clear space on your console. You don't need the exact size to know it will be large.
- Plan a good internet connection for November 12.
- Follow our launch day checklist.

- Free up space. Delete games you do not play. Even without the exact size, you will want a good margin.
- Check your internet. A wired connection is more stable than Wi-Fi for large downloads.
- Update your console and turn on automatic updates so system files are ready.
- Set a reminder for November 12 to start the preload.
- Know your region. Unlock times by region have not been officially announced.
What does 30 FPS mean in practice?
Frame rate is how many pictures per second the game shows. Most story-driven open-world games run at 30 FPS on consoles, and many players get used to it. A 60 FPS mode would feel smoother in fast driving and shooting, but it often reduces graphics quality. Until Rockstar announces modes, treat any promise of 60 FPS as a rumor.
Fake numbers to ignore
Sizes such as 150 GB or 320 GB circulate on social media. Rockstar has not announced a size, and an Xbox listing placeholder of about 328.8 MB is only a store placeholder. Never download anything that claims to be the game before launch.
