The Witcher is not slowing down. Here is what CD PROJEKT RED has confirmed about three future projects, and what is only a guess.
Key takeaways
- Songs of the Past: a paid third expansion for Witcher 3, planned for 2027, no price yet.
- The Witcher 4: 2028 release window, starring Ciri, built in Unreal Engine 5.
- Witcher 1 remake: effectively on hold, no date.
Songs of the Past
Announced at gamescom on August 25, 2026, Songs of the Past is the third expansion for Witcher 3. It comes to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with a new region called Letten, co-developed with Fool's Theory. According to Notebookcheck, Letten is inspired by rural England and Poland, Geralt gets a silver chain to pull enemies into melee, and new enemies include Thornblooms and Swarmions. Dandelion goes missing, and Geralt teams up with his cousin Lilla. It was first announced on May 27, 2026 for 2026, then delayed to 2027. Buying it on Blizzard's platform unlocks a Geralt-inspired Barbarian skin in Diablo IV.
The Witcher 4
Game Informer reported on August 24, 2026 that CD PROJEKT RED's joint CEO confirmed a 2028 release window. Wikipedia says the game stars Ciri, runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is the first of a new trilogy for PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Doug Cockle returns as Geralt, and Ciara Berkeley voices Ciri. A Gwent minigame is confirmed.
The Witcher 1 remake
CD PROJEKT RED told GameSpot, as reported by Dexerto, that the remake is effectively on hold. Fool's Theory is mainly working on Songs of the Past, and a small team is helping The Witcher 4. The remake will build on The Witcher 4's foundations. A guess of "around 2029" is only a journalist's estimate.
