The Mount Chiliad mural
On the top of Mount Chiliad there is a mural showing a UFO, a jetpack, an egg and an eye. It is the most famous mystery in the game.
UFOs
After you finish the story to 100% completion, three UFOs can appear: at Mount Chiliad (in a storm or early morning), at Fort Zancudo and at Sandy Shores.
The Ghost of Mount Gordo
Between 23:00 and midnight in game time, you can find the ghost at Mount Gordo, tied to the story of Jolene Cranley-Evans.
Peyote plants
There are 27 peyote plants hidden around the map. Eating one lets you play as an animal. GTA Intel attributes the 27 count to the Enhanced edition, so the number may differ elsewhere. A golden peyote leads to Sasquatch, and eating seven unlocks the Beast boss fight after you reach 100% and finish "The Last One."
The jetpack myth
For years players tried to find a secret jetpack in story mode. According to GTA Intel, the hidden story-mode jetpack is not real. The jetpack exists in GTA Online (in the Doomsday content), but not as a secret in the single-player story.
How to start hunting
- Finish the story to 100% first. Many secrets need it.
- Play at different times of day and in different weather.
- Save often.
- Be careful with videos that "prove" secrets: many are edited.
