CS2

CS2 has more than one ranking system, and that confuses many players. This guide explains the main ones, based on csdb.gg and prosettings.net, since Valve does not publish detailed rank data. Treat the details as community knowledge, not official statements.

Key takeaways

  • Premier uses a CS Rating number that updates after every match, and you need 10 wins to get a visible rating.
  • Rating colours run from grey (0-4,999) to gold (30,000+).
  • Competitive uses 18 skill groups from Silver I to Global Elite, with ranks per map.
  • Faceit and Wingman have their own, separate ladders.

Premier and CS Rating

Premier uses a number, the CS Rating, that updates after each match. You need 10 wins to get a visible rating. The formula is not published, and Valve does not release an official distribution.

Competitive

Competitive uses 18 skill groups, from Silver I to Global Elite, with a separate rank per map. You need 10 wins per map to get a rank.

Wingman

Wingman is the 2v2 mode and has its own separate ranks.

Faceit

Faceit is a third-party platform with levels from 1 to 10 and a visible ELO. Its ladder does not convert cleanly to Premier or Competitive ranks, so don't try to compare numbers directly.

The new Premier map picks

Premier uses a pick system for maps. Read our map pool and Premier picks guide.

Which mode should you play?

  • Premier if you want a single number to track and you like fixed pick-ban style map choice.
  • Competitive if you want to learn one map at a time, because ranks are per map.
  • Wingman if you have one friend and want a quick game.
  • Faceit if you want a third-party ladder with its own levels.

Climb smarter

  1. Play at a time when you are alert.
  2. Learn two or three maps well.
  3. Communicate calmly. Tilted teams lose.
  4. Review one lost game per week and note one thing to fix.

Ratings are numbers, not your worth as a player. The best way to enjoy the game is to improve a little every week.
