The story of FACEIT Major: London 2018
Astralis beat Natus Vincere 2–0 in London, 16–6 on Nuke and 16–9 on Overpass, and became the fourth squad to win more than one Major. Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz was deemed MVP by HLTV, although there was no official MVP award that year. The run to the final was a story of a failing old guard: defending champion Cloud9 was knocked out in the New Legends stage and lost its Legend status, and Fnatic failed to reach the playoffs for the first time. The qualifiers had drama too: Nemiga Gaming was denied UK visas, so the CIS Minor was played with seven teams, and Fierce Tiger was disqualified from the China qualifier after using a player, "tbgirl", who turned out to be VAC-banned. Ninjas in Pyjamas qualified for a Major for the first time in more than two years. The final in front of a Wembley crowd was the start of the Astralis streak.
Format
Two Swiss-system stages (New Challengers and New Legends) with Buchholz seeding, then an eight-team single-elimination best-of-three playoff (New Champions). 24 teams took part, and the prize pool was $1,000,000.
