The story of ESL One Katowice 2015
Fnatic became the first team to win two CS:GO Majors when they beat Ninjas in Pyjamas 2–1 in an all-Swedish final at Katowice 2015. Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer was the MVP. The tournament was shaped by the match-fixing scandal that had hit North America: Valve banned four iBUYPOWER players, which left only seven teams with direct invites, and Team WinneR was disqualified for match fixing and replaced by 3DMAX. There were also firsts on the bright side: Keyd Stars became the first South American team to play in a Major and reach the playoffs. Defending champion Team EnVyUs, which had won the previous Major as Team LDLC.com, was eliminated and finished in the third to fourth place bracket. The final itself was a seesaw on Dust II, Cache and Inferno that Fnatic took by winning the first and the deciding map.
Format
Four groups in a GSL-style format (best-of-one), then an eight-team single-elimination playoff with best-of-three series. 16 teams took part, and the prize pool was $250,000.
