The story of DreamHack Winter 2014
DreamHack Winter 2014 is remembered for two things: a French team winning the Major for the first time and the "Olofboost" controversy. Team LDLC.com beat Ninjas in Pyjamas 2–1 and became the first French team to reach, and win, a CS:GO Major final; Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer was MVP. On the way, in the quarterfinal against Fnatic, Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer used a pixel-walk glitch on Overpass. DreamHack ordered the match replayed, the community backlash was loud, and Fnatic forfeited, the first forfeit in Major history. Valve later removed the glitch with a patch. The event was also hit by a cheating scandal: Team Titan and Epsilon eSports were disqualified, and Copenhagen Wolves and Flipsid3 Tactics replaced them. For NiP it was the fourth Major final in a row, and the first one they lost.
Format
Four groups of four in a GSL-style format (best-of-one), then an eight-team single-elimination playoff with best-of-three series. 16 teams took part, and the prize pool was $250,000.
