Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer launches on October 23, 2026 with all-new maps instead of remakes. Activision says there are 12 core 6v6 maps on day one, plus Gunfight maps and Big War maps, and a dynamic new map called Kill Block. This guide lists the maps and modes reported so far. It was checked on October 10, 2026, and the exact sorting of maps into modes is not fully confirmed.
Key takeaways
- Day one has 12 core 6v6 maps, dedicated Gunfight maps and several Big War maps.
- Kill Block is a new map and mode where the layout changes between rounds.
- Reported modes include Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Inflation and Gunfight 10v10.
- Collateral is a new, single-life mode for fans of Search and Destroy.
- Zombies is not part of Modern Warfare 4. Zombies stays with the Black Ops games.
Launch maps reported so far
One report lists 14 names for launch. They are Silkworm, Reactor J92, Rooftop, Mumbai, Lithium, Munition, Caschette, Nautical, Lotus, Sentry, Coal, Transit 23, Korean Nuclear Reactor and Kill Block. Activision's own wording is 12 core 6v6 maps plus Gunfight and Big War maps, so some of these names are probably not standard 6v6 maps. We cannot say which, so treat the list as reported and not final.
| Map | What we know |
|---|---|
| Lotus | Set around a coastal Korean town |
| Korean Nuclear Reactor | Tied to the wider Korean conflict in the story |
| Mumbai | Continues the global setting, matching the campaign mission in India |
| Kill Block | Dynamic training-facility map, see below |
| Other names | Silkworm, Reactor J92, Rooftop, Lithium, Munition, Caschette, Nautical, Sentry, Coal, Transit 23: no public detail yet |
Many maps are described as parallel combat spaces connected to the campaign. Design goals mentioned in coverage are cleaner sight lines, less visual clutter and more deliberate fights. That should matter if you struggle with busy maps in older games.
Kill Block explained
Kill Block is a live-fire training facility built from three large battlefield slabs around a central "hero slab". The layout changes between rounds. The idea came from the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, whose pitch can move underground. Reports say there are more than 900 possible slab combinations, with roughly 500 expected at launch. It has about the same footprint as the classic Shoot House and supports all core modes. A 10v10 Gunfight version uses randomized loadouts, and the map changes each round.
Modes
| Mode | Short description |
|---|---|
| Team Deathmatch | Most kills for your team wins |
| Domination | Capture and hold fixed points |
| Hardpoint | Fight over a single objective that moves around the map |
| Kill Confirmed | Collect dog tags from fallen enemies to score |
| Counter Attack, Hijack | Objective modes listed in launch coverage |
| Inflation | Six-player teams fight over cash dropped by defeated players. Carrying more cash makes you a bigger target |
| Gunfight 10v10 | Two teams of ten on Kill Block with random loadouts |
| Gun Game, Drop Zone | Party and arcade style modes |
| Big War, Combat Outposts, Frontal Assault | Large-scale vehicle and infantry battles |
Collateral
Collateral is described as a new mode for Search and Destroy players. Teams take turns attacking and defending two bomb sites. You start with a pistol, earn cash from eliminations and objectives and buy upgrades between rounds. There are no respawns, killstreaks or automatic health regeneration, and custom loadouts are off. If you die, you lose your loadout, but the money you earned carries to the next round. Activision promised more detail closer to launch.
How the guns and movement feel
A new weapon system called Ballistic Authority covers aiming, weapon handling, audio and visibility, and Activision says it has no bloom. Movement is built to feel more fluid, with flanking routes and new high points. We have no hands-on numbers yet, so wait for the first patch notes before changing your sensitivity or loadout plans.
Which playlist fits you?
New players should start in Team Deathmatch or Domination, where kills and objectives both matter and one bad round hurts less. Players who like to hold a position will enjoy Hardpoint. If you prefer big spaces, Big War and Combat Outposts use vehicles and larger teams, so you will see more open ground and fewer corner fights. Gunfight is useful for sharpening duels because the maps are tiny and the loadouts are equal. Finally, use private matches with friends to learn Kill Block, since a layout that changes every round is hard to memorize alone.
What is not confirmed
- Which exact maps are in each playlist at launch.
- The date and contents of Season 1. Activision says "shortly after" launch only.
- When ranked play arrives.
- Whether Black Ops 7 maps will return in any form.
Tips for your first week
- Play core 6v6 playlists first to learn the maps. Kill Block changes its layout, so do not expect it to teach you set routes.
- Use Inflation and Gunfight to practice aim, but do not judge your skill there. They are party-style modes.
- Try Collateral with friends. A single life is stressful with random teammates.
- Wait before spending on cosmetics. The first seasonal event may change what is worth buying.
- Check your PC against our requirements guide and update drivers before launch.
