Everyone wants better aim in CS2, but most players just jump into matchmaking and hope. A better way is a short daily routine with clear steps. Twenty minutes is enough if you use it well.
Key takeaways
- Twenty focused minutes beat two hours of random matchmaking.
- Keep your crosshair at head height, always.
- Use one weapon per session so your muscle memory builds.
- Aim maps and 1v1 arenas on community servers are free training.
Step 1: Warm up (5 minutes)
Start slow. Join a community deathmatch server or a practice map and shoot at a steady pace. Don't rush: your goal is to wake up your hands and eyes, not to get a record score. Focus on clean crosshair placement at head height.
Step 2: Deathmatch (8 minutes)
Deathmatch gives you many fights per minute with no pressure. Pick one weapon and stay with it for the session. Try to see every kill as a tiny lesson: where was your crosshair before you saw the enemy? Did you stop moving before you shot?
Step 3: Aim maps (5 minutes)
Community servers also run aim maps (names start with aim_) and 1v1 arenas (names start with am_ or similar). They are perfect for training duels. Open the CS2 server list and filter by mode to find them.
Step 4: Cool-down (2 minutes)
Finish with a few relaxed rounds. Review what went wrong and write down one thing to fix tomorrow. One small fix per day adds up fast.
Set up your own practice server
You can also train alone on your own server with bots. Enable the developer console in Settings, then use these commands. They only work on your own server, never on public servers:
sv_cheats 1turns on practice commands.bot_kickremoves bots,bot_stop 1freezes them for spray practice.mp_buy_anywhere 1lets you buy anywhere on the map.sv_infinite_ammo 1gives you unlimited ammo.mp_restartgame 1restarts the round.
The full list is in our CS2 practice commands guide.
Small settings that help
- Crosshair: pick one you can see clearly on every map and stay with it.
- Sensitivity: choose a level that lets you turn around without lifting your mouse too many times, and don't change it every week.
- FPS:
cl_showfps 1shows your frame rate, so you can see if your computer is the problem.
Watch and learn
Streams show how good players place their crosshair before every corner. Don't just watch the kills: watch the aim before the kill.

szelioficjalnieplTrack your progress
Training only works if you can see it working. Once a week, play the same short routine and write down how it felt: how many duels you won in the 1v1 arena, how clean your first bullets were, how often your crosshair was at head height when an enemy appeared. Small notes show you what is improving and what is not.
Common aim mistakes
- Changing sensitivity every day. Pick one and stay with it for weeks. Muscle memory needs time.
- Moving while shooting. Stop first, then shoot, then move again.
- Training tired or angry. A short break beats a bad session.
- Skipping the warm-up. Cold hands miss.
Combine this routine with our practice commands guide to build your own training map, and find an aim-friendly community server on the CS2 list.
