WoW

Many players ask if they must pay twice for WoW Forever. The short answer is no. Reports based on Blizzard's pre-purchase announcement say a normal WoW subscription covers the game, and the paid packs are optional extras. Prices below are in US dollars and come from Blizzard Watch's September 13, 2026 breakdown. They can differ by region and may change, so confirm them in the Battle.net shop.

Key takeaways

  • Forever is included with a standard WoW subscription. No separate purchase is required.
  • There is no free trial for Forever, according to Icy Veins.
  • The Skyborne race and its starting zone are not part of the base subscription.
  • Packs cost $30, $60 and $80. A $150 physical edition is listed as sold out.
  • The Epic pack and above include beta access and early name reservation.

Do you need a pack to play?

No. You need a Battle.net account, an active subscription and the dedicated Forever client. The packs matter if you want the Skyborne race, the cosmetics or early access to names. If your subscription lapses, you cannot log in until you renew, but your characters are kept.

Name reservation and beta

Buyers of the Heroic pack, Epic pack or the Collection get name reservation from October 27 to November 3, first come, first served. Beta access comes with the Epic pack and above. The October 21 stress test is open to everyone, which is explained in our stress test guide.

Accounts and limits

One Battle.net license can hold up to eight WoW accounts, but each needs its own active subscription and only one can be logged in at a time. Icy Veins lists a limit of 50 characters per license.

Is it worth paying for a pack?

The Epic pack is the one that mixes a month of game time with beta access, so the real extra cost is lower than the sticker price if you would pay for a month anyway. That math is yours to check against your own plans.
