The biggest Dota 2 update of 2026 so far is patch 7.41, released on March 24, 2026, which removed Facets and gave many heroes Innate abilities. The newest patch we could confirm is 7.41f, released in mid-September 2026 after The International. Liquipedia's version list, as we read it, showed small patches 7.41a to 7.41d between March and June, and no 7.42 had been announced as of October 10, 2026.
Key takeaways
- Facets were removed about ten months after they were added.
- Many heroes got new Innate abilities that do not depend on a choice.
- Refresher Orb and Refresher Shard no longer reset item cooldowns.
- 7.41f is the first patch after The International 2026 and mostly nerfs late-game strength.
- Valve has not announced a 7.42 yet. Treat leaks as rumors.

What 7.41 changed
Facets were hero options that changed how a hero played. Valve cut them because one option was often much better than the others, and because the system made hero rules harder to learn. Many heroes now have Innates, which are always on and do not scale with their other abilities. Some popular Facets became part of hero kits.
What this means for you
You no longer pick a Facet before the match. That makes the hero pick screen simpler. It also means old guides that say "pick the second Facet" are out of date. If a video was made before March 2026, check the date.
Items and neutral items
Shiva's Guard and Bloodstone were reworked, and Eternal Shroud was removed. New items include Consecrated Wraps and Essence Distiller. New neutral items include Forager's Kit, Stonefeather Satchel and Specialist's Array. Tier-one neutral items can now be built from the start of the game. Refresher Orb and Refresher Shard no longer reset item cooldowns.
Map changes
Early creep waves meet closer to the offlane tower. The first extra siege creep arrives at 30 minutes, with a second at 60. Tormentor and Roshan swapped starting spots, and Tormentor is tankier.

What 7.41f changed
Valve announced 7.41f on its Steam news feed in mid-September 2026. Dot Esports gives the date as September 16, while another outlet gives September 15, which is likely a time-zone difference. PlayNews counted 16 changes with only one buff. Dot Esports lists these highlights.
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Satanic | Lifesteal 30% to 25%; creep lifesteal 18% to 15% |
| Silver Edge | Shadow Walk cooldown 22 to 23 seconds; bonus move speed 22% to 20% |
| Recipe costs | Changed for Dragon Lance, Heart of Tarrasque, Daedalus, Heaven's Halberd and Octarine Core |
| Nerfed heroes | Shadow Fiend, Bounty Hunter, Underlord, Treant Protector, Earth Spirit, Invoker, Centaur Warrunner |
| Buffed heroes | Ursa (Maul health damage 1.25% to 1.75%), Anti-Mage (Mana Break 60% to 65%), Chen (strength gain 2.0 to 2.2) |
Different outlets list a few extra hero changes, so use the official notes as the final word. The overall idea is clear: games that ran very long and ended with huge healing should end a little sooner.
How to adapt as a normal player
- Open the patch notes in the client and search for your main hero first.
- Play a bot match or demo mode to test changed items.
- Do not copy a pro build blindly. Pros use a different pace than ranked games.
- Wait a few days. The first week after any patch is noisy, and small fixes often follow.
Why Valve removed Facets
Facets sounded great: one hero, several ways to play. Press coverage says one option was often much better than the others, so in many cases the choice had a clear right answer. New players also had more to learn before the match even started. Moving the good ideas into Innates gives every hero a clearer identity. This part is our reading, not a Valve statement. It is a trade: you lose a pick-screen choice, but you gain simpler heroes and easier balance for Valve.
The same thinking explains the Refresher change. When one item resets every cooldown, a single teamfight can decide the whole game. Removing that reset makes late-game spell chains less explosive.
Common mistakes after a patch
- Following a video from before March 2026 that talks about Facets.
- Buying an item because it was good last month without reading its change.
- Thinking one nerf makes a hero unplayable. A hero with a small nerf can still be strong.
What is next
Valve has not announced the next major update. Leaks and guesses are rumors, so wait for the official post. Meanwhile, pros test the new meta at events listed in our esports guide.
