The story of IEM Cologne Major 2026
Team Falcons won their first Major, 3–0 over FURIA Esports in the Lanxess Arena, taking Mirage, Anubis and Inferno 13–8 each. Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was MVP for the first time, and NiKo finally got his Major trophy, after years of near misses at earlier Majors. karrigan, who replaced the benched kyxsan on April 20, was reunited with NiKo only about two months before the event, and coach zonic won his sixth Major as a coach, with his third different organization. The grand final was a best-of-five, and for the first time in Major history all Stage 3 matches were best-of-three. Defending champion Team Vitality lost to Falcons in the quarterfinals, Team Spirit finished third and Aurora Gaming fourth. During the event, Legacy’s coach adrrr (Alan Riveros) was barred from the rest of the tournament on June 13 after repeated warnings for communicating with players outside timeouts. Organizers described it as the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament ever.
Format
Three 16-team Swiss-system stages (for the first time all Stage 3 matches were best-of-three), then an eight-team single-elimination playoff with best-of-three matches and a best-of-five grand final. All 32 teams were directly invited. 32 teams took part, and the prize pool was $1,250,000.
