GTA VI

How big is the GTA VI map? That is one of the most searched questions about the game. We now have an answer from Rockstar's Game Informer cover story, as summarized by GameSpot on October 5, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • The map is reported to be about twice the size of GTA V's.
  • Six regions are named: Vice City, Leonida Quays, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
  • No official size in kilometers has been given.
  • Real-world comparisons are journalists' guesses, not Rockstar statements.

How big is it?

Leonida is reportedly about twice the size of GTA V's map, and Rockstar's largest map "by some degree." That is a big claim, because Los Santos and Blaine County were already huge. We don't have a number in kilometers, so be careful with websites that give exact figures.

The six regions

The story takes place in the fictional state of Leonida. The Game Informer report names six areas:

  1. Vice City: the neon city in the heart of the game, and the one fans know best.
  2. Leonida Quays: a water-focused region.
  3. Grassrivers: a swampy, wild area.
  4. Port Gellhorn: a port area.
  5. Ambrosia: another region of the state.
  6. Mount Kalaga National Park: a natural park area.

What will you do on the map?

Rockstar's materials show a lot of variety. Activities seen or mentioned include base jumping, billiards, the gym, kayaking, racing, a zoo, airboating, jet-skiing and mini-golf. The Extended Look also showed cars, bikes, fanboats, jet skis and canoes. Read more in our GTA 6 world guide.

Is the map bigger than other games?

We can only compare with what Rockstar said: twice the size of GTA V. We don't have official numbers for other games, so skip any claims that GTA VI is "the biggest open world ever."

Why "twice as big" is not the whole story

Size is only one part of a good open world. GTA V had large empty areas, like deserts and mountains. What matters in GTA VI, according to Rockstar's own description, is density and variety: weather that changes by area, more than 170 animal species, and activities from base jumping to mini-golf. A map that is twice as big but full of things to do is very different from one that is twice as big and empty.

How to plan your first hours in Leonida

  1. Start with the story. Rockstar usually opens the map gradually, so the first missions teach you the basics.
  2. Explore Vice City first. It is the heart of the game and the region fans know best.
  3. Try the activities. Mini-golf, kayaking and base jumping are easy ways to learn the controls.
  4. Take screenshots. Weather and lighting change a lot between regions.

What is still unknown

We do not have a kilometer figure, the exact boundaries of each region, or a list of all vehicles. Be careful with maps shared on social media: most are fan-made or edited. When Rockstar shows an official map, we will update this page and the map and locations page.
