Yes. Riot parental tools can turn in-game text and voice chat on or off, and players can also mute others.

Riot sells cosmetics and a Battle Pass. We did not verify every store item today, so check the in-game store for what is on sale.

Is Valorant Safe for Kids? Age Rating and Parental Controls

Valorant is a free shooter with stylized graphics. It is popular with teens. This guide is based on the ESRB and Riot's own support pages, checked on October 9, 2026.

Key takeaways

ESRB rating: Teen (T), for Blood, Language and Violence.
It has Users Interact and In-Game Purchases notices.
Riot's Parent Portal can limit chat, friends and spending, but some tools depend on your country.

Age rating and content

The ESRB rates Valorant T for Blood, Language and Violence. Players shoot each other, and there are blood effects. It is not very graphic, but it is a shooter. Rules on the minimum age to play alone vary by region, and Riot may ask a parent to approve an account.

Chat and other players

Valorant has team voice and text chat with strangers. Heated talk happens. Riot penalizes abuse and says its voice detection now covers more languages (Spanish, Portuguese and Korean were added in patch 13.06). Players can mute others and report them in-game, including with the Voice Comms Abuse category.

Spending

The game is free. Money goes to cosmetic skins and a Battle Pass. Riot says its Parent Portal can set spending limits on purchases made through Riot's platforms, but console and mobile stores must be managed in those stores. Spending limits and play time limits do not apply in the US.

What parents can set up

Control	What it does
Chat limits	Turn text and voice chat off (the US PC controls can also limit it to friends).
Friends	View the friends list, remove accounts, block new requests (US PC controls).
Message history	See adult accounts that messaged the child in the last 30 days (Parent Portal).
Play time	Monthly PC limits (not in the US).
Take a Break	Temporarily disable the account.

Valorant is also available on console, where the console's own family settings apply. Cheating and account selling are against the rules and risk a ban, so remind kids not to buy accounts or boosts.
