STALKER 2 system requirements and FPS tips

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is one of the more demanding PC games. The Steam page lists the official minimum and recommended requirements, and both ask for a lot of memory and a fast drive. Official requirements

The numbers come from the Steam store page. The game also needs a 64-bit system, and the page says an SSD is required, so do not install it on a hard disk drive.

What do these specs mean for you?

Minimum is a target for 30 FPS at 1080p with Low settings, which is playable but not smooth. For 60 FPS at 1440p with High settings you need the recommended class of hardware. How to get more FPS

1. Install the free Update 2.0. It moved the game to a newer Unreal Engine 5 version and was expected to improve performance.
2. Use an SSD. It is required, and installing on a slow drive can cause stutter.
3. Turn on upscaling. Use DLSS, FSR or a similar option if the game offers it, and lower the render scale before lowering textures.
4. Lower shadows and effects first. They cost a lot and change the picture little.
5. Close background apps. Browsers, overlays and recording tools use memory and the graphics card.
6. Update graphics drivers. Studios often tune drivers for big releases.

Performance mods: use with care

Several fan mods claim small FPS gains, for example Stalker Optimizer and Optimized Tweaks. Gains vary, and some edit configuration files, so back them up. Mods can also break after game updates. Read our mod guide before you install anything.

Common problems

• Stutter indoors: was a widely reported issue before Update 2.0. Install the update and check your RAM.
• Game will not start: verify the files in Steam and check you have enough free disk space.
• Low FPS on a laptop: make sure the game uses the dedicated graphics card, not the integrated one.
