GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026, and the first question for many players is which console version to buy. This guide separates what Rockstar and Sony have said from what press reports say and from what nobody has said yet. Everything was checked on October 9, 2026, and details can change.
Key takeaways
- Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch. It is not a PS4 or Xbox One game.
- Sony's page calls it "PS5 Pro Enhanced" but does not say what that means.
- 30 FPS on both consoles is reported from preview sessions. No 60 FPS mode has been announced.
- No PC version is announced.
What is official
| Topic | Status |
|---|---|
| Platforms at launch | PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (Rockstar's page) |
| Release date | November 19, 2026 |
| PS4 / Xbox One | Not supported (PlayStation's page says it is not playable on PS4) |
| PS5 Pro | Listed as "PS5 Pro Enhanced"; details not explained |
| DualSense features | Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speaker and 3D audio are listed by PlayStation |
| Physical copies | Boxes hold a download code, not a disc (reported from the pre-order details) |
Frame rate and resolution
Rockstar has not published a spec sheet. Press outlets that attended hands-off preview sessions in August 2026 reported that the game runs at 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. When asked about a 60 FPS option, Rockstar reportedly said it had nothing to share. So treat 30 FPS as a strong report, not a formal promise, and treat any 60 FPS claim as a guess.
Rockstar has also not published target resolutions, ray tracing details, or separate "quality" and "performance" modes. Any number you see for those is not official.
PS5 Pro and Series X
The "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label is on PlayStation's page, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said whether that means a sharper image, better upscaling or something else. Nothing separate has been announced for Xbox Series X compared with Series S. We do not know the Series S image quality, the install size, or any Xbox-specific features.
Which console should you pick?
- If you already own a PS5, PS5 Pro, Series X or Series S, you can play the game. Do not buy new hardware only for an unconfirmed feature.
- Check your free storage. The install size is not published.
- Digital pre-orders on PlayStation before November 20, 2026 include one month of GTA+, claimable until March 31, 2027, according to PlayStation's page.
