RL

Rocket League is a cars-and-football game with no blood and no realistic violence. That makes it one of the milder popular online games. Because players talk to strangers and the shop sells items, parents should still check a few settings. Information was checked on October 9, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • ESRB rating: Everyone, with Mild Lyrics and Users Interact on the Epic listing.
  • The game is free, but it sells Credits and Rocket Pass packs.
  • Text and voice chat can be turned off in Settings. Players then see only preset Quick Chat messages.
  • Parental controls work through an Epic account or the console.

Age rating

The ESRB rates the game E for Everyone. The Epic store lists the descriptors Mild Lyrics and Users Interact. "Users Interact" means players can talk to each other online, and the ESRB cannot control that. We did not check the PEGI rating for this article.

Chat and online safety

  1. Open Settings, then Chat.
  2. Set Match Chat and Party Chat to allow text chat with nobody.
  3. Turn voice chat off, or mute single players from the Friends List.
  4. Teach your child to report and block players who break the rules.

Players can report others in a match, from the post-match screen or from the Recent Players tab. Blocking mutes messages and voice from that person.

Parental controls

You can set controls on the Epic Games account or on the console. Players with controls only see other players' Epic display names. According to Epic, players aged 13 to 18 can choose to show their display name. Those accounts also cannot create clubs, tournaments, private matches or custom training, but they can join those made by others. Text and voice chat may be limited.

Spending

The game is free to play. The shop sells Credits, for example 1,100 for $9.99, and Season 24 packs at $1.99 and $9.99 (checked on the Epic Games Store). Since 2019 the game no longer uses random loot crates. Items you buy are shown before you pay. Still, set a spending limit or a password on the store account.

Screen time

Casual matches last only a few minutes, so it is easy to keep playing. Agree a limit before the session starts. Our beginner guide explains modes, and you can browse the Rocket League hub to see the streams your child may watch.
