October 8: radio, podcasts and screenshots
Rockstar updated its GTA VI site with six radio stations and on-demand podcasts. Vice also reported three new screenshots, which the site describes by file names as a highway, a night scene and cars. A news piece on Digital Foundry commentary says one image shows a rainy street, and that an analyst thinks it may come from a debug camera or a PS5 Pro dev kit. That is an opinion about how it was made, not a Rockstar statement. Rockstar has not said which platform or settings were used, so do not treat any screenshot as proof of how the game will look on your console. Full station detail is in our radio and hosts guide.
The IGN interview with Rob Nelson
IGN published a long interview with Rob Nelson, Head of Development and Co-Studio Head at Rockstar North, in which he played the game live. IGN's own page is blocked for our tools, so we relied on write-ups by Inven Global and GTAVice, both dated October 7. They disagree on when the interview was recorded (July or August), so we cannot give an exact date. The details below are per those write-ups.
- Criminal Profile: a system tracks what kind of criminal you are. It is separate from the Jason and Lucia relationship.
- Cars: one-button hotwiring is gone. Some cars stay locked until you get tools, though carjacking always works. A phone scanner shows locks, alarms and trackers.
- Police: officers remember your outfit, and crimes count mostly when witnessed. Changing clothes or cars can help you escape.
- Jason and Lucia: time together improves their bond. Activities named include mini golf, kayaking and scuba diving. Texts and calls are available at any time.
- World: safehouses are closer to RDR2 camps. Ryde Me works as a ride service and fast travel. Money matters more than before.
Not covered there: price, a new date, map locations and multiplayer. For the couple, see our Jason and Lucia guide.
October 13: "it will definitely be released"
KeenGamer reports that Nelson, asked in a Famitsu interview whether the game will come out despite earlier delays, said it will definitely be released. KeenGamer notes this is reassurance, not a new announcement. We could not open the Famitsu original, and its page address suggests it may have been recorded earlier in the year, so we do not know when he said it. Rockstar's store page still shows November 19. See the release date and launch time guide.
October 14: the Bloomberg making-of
Kotaku and Dot Esports, both dated October 14, report on a Bloomberg feature about the making of GTA VI. We could not open Bloomberg itself, so this is relayed information. According to those pieces:
- Phil Hooker said the engine, tools and team built for this game should let Rockstar do things more quickly.
- Aaron Garbut said the studio changed many foundations of its tech and plans to keep that work.
- Kotaku says the Rockstar leaders pushed back on the idea that the next game will take nearly a decade. Rockstar has named no next project.
- Dot Esports adds claims about studio size, 4,711 staff in 12 offices, and analyst sales forecasts. Those figures belong to Bloomberg and its analysts, not to Rockstar's official site.
What is not confirmed
- PC in Q1 2027: one outlet's report, relayed by a Forbes contributor, who notes Rockstar has not commented. See the PC release guide.
- A GTA Online date: not announced. See what Rockstar has said about GTA 6 Online.
- Leaked videos and files: unverified, and files linked to them have been reported as risky. We do not describe them. Read our leaks safety guide.
- Launch time, refunds and bundles: only what is on Rockstar Support and store pages counts.
- Sales forecasts: estimates by analysts, not results.
Where to check official sources
- Rockstar's GTA VI page for the date, trailers, music and screenshots.
- Rockstar Newswire for company announcements. Check the date on each post.
- Rockstar Support for preload, editions and region rules.
- PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store for your own console's price and edition details.
- Large outlets that link the primary post such as Vice, Kotaku, Gematsu or IGN. If an article does not name its source, wait.
