Rockstar has released three main videos for GTA VI. Trailer 1 introduced the game, Trailer 2 introduced the story, and the Extended Look showed real gameplay. All three are embedded below, with the dates, songs and numbers that matter. Details were checked on October 10, 2026.
Key takeaways
- Trailer 1 (December 5, 2023) revealed the name, the setting and the two heroes.
- Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) was captured on PS5 and came with new character and location text.
- The Extended Look (August 27, 2026) is a gameplay showcase of more than 20 minutes.
- Rockstar has not announced another trailer. Do not trust "Trailer 3 date" posts.

Sources differ slightly on the length of the Extended Look, with reports ranging from about 20 to 26 minutes, so we give a range instead of an exact figure.
Trailer 1: the reveal
It leaked a day early, so Rockstar posted it right away. It confirmed the title, the Vice City setting, the two protagonists and the consoles. It used Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road", which saw a jump in streams afterwards. Wikipedia reports about 93 million views in its first day and a record for a non-music video on YouTube at that time. It was mostly mood: beaches, car meets, an influencer-style world and a short peek at Lucia in a prison uniform.
Trailer 2: the story
This one set the tone for Jason and Lucia as a pair in trouble. Rockstar updated its website the same day with dozens of screenshots plus character and location descriptions. That text is where names like Grassrivers and Port Gellhorn first showed up. Songs include "Hot Together" by the Pointer Sisters. It reached a record 475 million views across platforms in 24 hours, according to Wikipedia, a number later beaten by a movie trailer in 2026. For the people and places it introduced, see Jason and Lucia and GTA 6 locations.
The Extended Look: the gameplay
This premiered on Netflix and then YouTube. It showed focus slow-motion, a six-star wanted level, disguises, base jumping, scuba diving, racing and fast switching between Jason and Lucia. TechRadar noted it was captured on a base PS5. It also showed quick-time prompts in a fight and a cleaner heads-up display than GTA V. Read our full Extended Look breakdown for the details.
What to look for when you rewatch
Each video rewards a second viewing, if you know where to look. In Trailer 1, watch the background: signs, phone screens and clothing are full of Florida jokes and social media parody. In Trailer 2, pause on the screenshots Rockstar added to its website, because the captions name places and people. In the Extended Look, watch the top-left and top-right corners of the screen, where TechRadar spotted the focus meter, the weapon icon and the wanted stars. Our easter eggs and theories page lists community finds, clearly marked as theories.
Songs in the trailers
| Song | Artist | Video |
|---|---|---|
| Love Is a Long Road | Tom Petty | Trailer 1 |
| Hot Together | The Pointer Sisters | Trailer 2 |
Other songs are reported for Trailer 2, and our music guide lists them. The Extended Look uses gameplay audio more than licensed tracks, and Rockstar has also announced an album of 34 original songs for November 19.
What changed between the videos
- Release plan: Trailer 1 promised 2025. Trailer 2 arrived the same month the date moved to May 26, 2026. Rockstar then moved it to November 19, 2026 in November 2025.
- Information: Trailer 1 showed a mood, Trailer 2 gave names and places, and the Extended Look gave systems.
- Platform: Trailer 2 and the Extended Look were captured on PS5, which helped answer questions about how the game looks on console.
Which one is best for what?
If you only have two minutes, pick Trailer 2. It shows the most characters and places. If you want to know what you will actually do in the game, pick the Extended Look. Trailer 1 is mostly for nostalgia now, but it is still the video that started the hype. If you are showing the game to a younger sibling, remember the content is mature, and read our age rating guide first.
Common mistakes
- Calling the Extended Look "Trailer 3". Rockstar did not.
- Trusting fake "Trailer 3" thumbnails and countdowns, which are often clickbait or scams.
- Quoting view records without a date. They change as new trailers appear.
