RedM is a roleplay mod for Red Dead Redemption 2, and every server writes its own list of jobs. As an example, one server's whitelisted jobs thread on the Cfx.re forum lists these roles. Your server may differ, but you will find many of them everywhere.
Key takeaways
- The sample server lists doctor, lawman, undertaker, saloon owner, bounty hunter, rancher, prospector, general store owner, oilman, moonshiner, train robber and gang member.
- Lawman jobs often need a whitelist application.
- Your server may differ, so read its list.
- Roles give your character a reason to meet others.
Law and order
- Lawman: keeps the peace, and often needs a whitelist application.
- Bounty hunter: tracks down outlaws for money.
Care and community
- Doctor: heals other players, an important role in any town.
- Undertaker: takes care of the dead, a classic Wild West role.
Business and trade
- Saloon owner
- General store owner
- Rancher
- Prospector
- Oilman
Outlaw life
- Moonshiner
- Train robber
- Gang member
Outlaw roles come with strict rules, because they involve other players. Read your server's rules before you start.
How RedM servers differ
Servers label themselves as "serious RP" or "semi-serious RP." Many use frameworks such as VORP. Public servers let you join immediately, while whitelist servers ask you to apply.
The Cfx Marketplace
On January 12, 2026, Rockstar launched the Cfx Marketplace, an official store for creator mods for FiveM and RedM. Most items are paid. Creators can sell things like new maps and scripts, so servers may use new content.

How to choose a role
- Think about a story. A doctor in a small town meets everyone.
- Choose a role you can do alone if few players are online.
- Join a group if you want company.
- Ask the server's staff about the rules for your job.
Mix and match
Many players start with a simple civilian job and later move to something more exciting. There is no rush. A town runs on shopkeepers as much as on sheriffs.
