Rust servers reset on a schedule called a wipe. Facepunch releases a big update on the first Thursday of every month, and that update forces every server to wipe its map. The next force wipe is expected on Thursday, November 5, 2026, around 19:00 UK time. This guide explains what a wipe removes, how servers differ and when to join.
Key takeaways
- Force wipe day is the first Thursday of the month. Facepunch ships the monthly update at about 2 pm Eastern (7 pm UK, 19:00 UTC), and it can run a little late.
- Every server must at least map wipe on that day. Blueprint wipes are up to the server owner unless Facepunch says otherwise.
- Many community servers also wipe weekly or every two weeks, so look at each server's description.
- The first hours after a wipe are the busiest and the fairest time to start.
What a wipe is
A wipe resets the world. Bases, loot and everything players built disappear, and everyone starts again with a rock and a torch. Rust is designed around this loop: you start, grow, fight, and then the map resets so everyone gets a fresh chance. Server owners choose how often they run it.
Map wipe vs blueprint wipe
| Map wipe | Blueprint (BP) wipe | |
|---|---|---|
| What resets | Terrain, bases, loot, items | Everything in a map wipe, plus the recipes you learned |
| Required on force wipe day? | Yes, on every server | No, unless Facepunch announces it. Owners decide |
| How often | Weekly, biweekly or monthly on many servers | Often monthly, sometimes never on high-rate servers |
| Impact on you | You lose your base and items | You must research items again |
Sources describe blueprint rules a little differently, so treat the server description as the final word. For the October 1, 2026 Livestock Update, the coverage we checked said the map wipe was forced and the blueprint wipe was left to server owners.
2026 force wipe dates
| Month | Force wipe (first Thursday) | Status on October 14, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | October 1 | Done: Livestock Update |
| November 2026 | November 5 | Expected |
| December 2026 | December 3 | Expected |
Facepunch can move a date, for example around a holiday, so watch the official news. The rule is simple, but a specific date is only confirmed when the developer posts it.

How servers choose their own schedule
The Facepunch wiki says the default server timer has three settings that follow the force wipe day. Server owners can change all of it.
| Wipe type | Default timing (London time, 19:00) |
|---|---|
| Monthly | First Thursday of each month |
| Weekly | Every Thursday |
| Biweekly | First and third Thursday of each month |
Owners can also pick another day and hour, so many popular servers wipe on weekends or on fixed local times. That is why a server name often shows "Wipe Friday" or a date. Read it before you start building.
What changes on wipe day for you
On the Thursday of a force wipe, servers go offline for the update. Players download the new version, and servers come back one by one, usually within an hour or two. You may see a message that your client is out of date. Restart Steam if the game does not update by itself. Your skins, settings and favourites stay. Your base, items and, on servers that reset them, blueprints do not.
Because every server updates at the same time, the server browser can look empty for a short while. Wait a few minutes and refresh the list instead of assuming the servers are gone.
Which wipe type suits you
- Weekly: best if you like fast starts and have limited time. You never invest too long in a base. Expect many new players each week.
- Biweekly: a balance between speed and building. Good for casual players.
- Monthly: longer progression, bigger bases, more late-wipe raids. Fewer people play at the end.
- Rare wipes: some modded servers keep progress for a long time. Stay away if you want a fair fresh start.
Best time to join after a wipe
The player count is highest in the first hours and days, then it falls. Joining right at wipe time means the queue can be long, and everyone races for the same resources. Joining a few hours later is still fine for most players. Joining after the first week of a monthly wipe usually means well-armed groups are already online.
Many servers also run endgame events before a wipe. The wiki says these start about a day before wipe time on servers using the default setting, but owners can turn them off.
How to check a server's next wipe
- Open the server in the browser or on our live Rust server list and read the name and description.
- Look for a wipe day, a date or a countdown.
- Check the server's Discord or website if the description is vague.
- If nothing is stated, assume it follows force wipe day and plan to lose your base then.
Common mistakes
- Thinking the monthly update keeps your base. Every server has to map wipe.
- Assuming blueprints reset everywhere. Many servers keep them.
- Reading the wrong time zone. Wipe times are often shown in London or server time.
- Joining at the very end of a wipe with a poor start.
