Elden Ring runs on many mid-range PCs, but it is not a game that always runs smoothly. The numbers below come from the Steam store page, checked on October 10, 2026. Prices change with sales and regions, so look at Steam before you pay.

Key takeaways

  • Minimum: Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 3 3300X, 12 GB RAM, GTX 1060 3 GB or RX 580 4 GB, 60 GB of storage.
  • Recommended: Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1070 8 GB or RX Vega 56 8 GB.
  • Steam US base price was $59.99 on October 10, 2026.
  • Nightreign is a separate game with lower storage needs (30 GB) and a $39.99 price.

What these numbers mean in real life

Minimum means the game starts and plays at low settings. Recommended is the level Bandai Namco expects for a steady experience at the default quality. The game is known for occasional stutter on PC, mainly when it loads new areas, and a faster SSD helps with that. Storage on the Steam page is 60 GB, but you should keep extra room for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and for updates.

A quick check before you buy

  1. Open Task Manager, go to Performance and note your CPU, RAM and GPU.
  2. Compare the GPU with the table. A card with less than 3 GB of video memory is under the minimum.
  3. Check free space on an SSD. A hard drive works, but loading is slower.
  4. If you are close to the minimum, lower shadows, textures and effects first.

Editions and prices on Steam (US)

EditionPriceWhat you get
Elden Ring$59.99 (verified October 10, 2026)Base game
Shadow of the Erdtree Edition$79.99 (earlier check)Base game plus the large expansion
Shadow of the Erdtree Deluxe Edition$99.99 (earlier check)Adds digital extras such as an artbook and soundtrack

We re-checked the base price today. The two bundle prices come from an earlier check and should be confirmed on the store page. The expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, came out on June 20, 2024, and needs the base game. It is meant for players who have already won several big bosses; see our DLC access guide.

Settings to change first if it stutters

Elden Ring is built around a 60 frames-per-second target, so a monitor above 60 Hz will not give you much extra. If your PC is near the minimum, these steps help most, in this order:

  1. Lower Shadow Quality and Lighting Quality. They cost the most performance for the least visible loss.
  2. Lower Texture Quality one step if your GPU has 3 or 4 GB of video memory.
  3. Turn off Motion Blur and reduce Effects Quality.
  4. Install the game on an SSD and close browsers and launchers while you play.

Change one setting at a time and walk through the same area, so you can see what helped. Keep Windows and graphics drivers current. If problems continue, check that the game is installed on the drive you think it is, and that your graphics driver is not running in a power-saving mode on a laptop.

Console and handheld

Elden Ring also released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in February 2022. A Nintendo Switch 2 version, the Tarnished Edition, launched on August 28, 2026. See the Tarnished Edition guide for details.

Nightreign for comparison

Elden Ring Nightreign is a separate co-op game. Steam lists a minimum of Core i5-10600 or Ryzen 5 5500, 12 GB RAM, GTX 1060 3 GB or RX 580 4 GB and 30 GB of storage. Recommended is Core i5-11500 or Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1070 8 GB, on Windows 11. It costs $39.99, and the Deluxe edition at $54.99 includes The Forsaken Hollows. Read the Nightreign guide to see if it suits you.

Age rating and parents

Steam lists ESRB M for blood and gore, language, suggestive themes and violence, plus in-game purchases. PEGI is 16. Steam shows a required age of 16. Violence is fantasy-style and some bosses are grotesque, so parents of younger teens may want to look at gameplay first.

Common mistakes

  • Buying on the strength of a low-spec video. Frame rate depends on your own GPU and CPU.
  • Installing to a nearly full drive. Updates need extra space.
  • Skipping the controller. The game plays well on a gamepad, and Steam supports most pads.
  • Buying the DLC first. It needs the base game and a strong character.
