Gentler picks

Game	Released	Why it is gentler
Luigi's Mansion 3	Oct 31, 2019 (Switch)	Charming ghost hunt, praised as fun and hilarious by critics
Oxenfree	Jan 2016	Talking and exploring; no game-over, no combat mentioned
Little Nightmares	Apr 2017	Puzzle platformer; grim and strange, so a middle step
Alan Wake Remastered	Oct 2021	Thriller with calm daytime parts; still tense at night

How to pick one

Ask what scares you. If it is jump scares, pick Luigi's Mansion 3 or Oxenfree, which lean on humor and talk. If it is being chased, avoid stealth-heavy games. If it is dark themes, read a short plot summary first. A spoiler for the mood is not a spoiler for the fun.

Ways to make Silent Hill itself easier

Pick an easier setting. The Silent Hill 2 remake lets you set puzzle and combat difficulty separately.
Silent Hill f has a Casual Mode, added in a December 2025 patch, that cuts enemy damage a lot.
