Roles in plain words

A tank takes hits and holds enemy attention. A healer keeps the group alive. Damage dealers hurt enemies from close or far range. A support class does a bit of everything. In small dungeons, a group of five usually wants at least one tank and one healer.

How to choose

You want to play solo

Cleric heals itself, which makes questing relaxed. Gladiator is sturdy and simple.

You want to play with friends

Templar and Cleric are always useful in dungeons and raids. Chanter supports and still deals damage.

You like fast action

Assassin and Ranger give quick damage, but you need good positioning.

Weapons and playstyle

Each class is tied to one weapon, so your pick also decides how fights look and feel. Greatswords and daggers are close-range tools. A bow keeps you at a distance. A staff, mace, grimoire or orb is used for magic.
