How big is GTA 6, and will it run on PS5 Pro or PC? The honest answer today is that the size is not announced, PS5 Pro details are not explained, and there are no PC requirements because no PC version is announced. We checked Rockstar and PlayStation pages on October 14, 2026. Anything else you read is an estimate or a rumor, and we mark each one below.

Key takeaways

  • Install size: not announced by Rockstar, PlayStation or Xbox as far as we could find.
  • PS5 Pro: PlayStation's page lists "PS5 Pro Enhanced" but does not say what that means.
  • Frame rate: 30 FPS is reported for launch consoles. A 60 FPS mode is not announced.
  • PC: no version, date or requirements are announced. Reports of a 2027 PC release are rumors.
  • Smart move: clear a large safe buffer now, and do not trust any exact number before the store shows one.

Rockstar's support page covers editions and preload, but it has nothing on storage. That matters for physical buyers too: because the box holds only a code, you need the same free space as a digital buyer.

GTA 6 install size: what people claim

You will see numbers from 100 GB to more than 300 GB online. None come from Rockstar. Here is how to read the loudest ones.

  • "Over 200 GB." On October 12, 2026, TweakTown reported an X account claiming that a leaked development build is over 200 GB. That is a rumor about an unfinished build, not the shop version. The report itself warns that dev builds can hold extra files and that the retail download could be smaller.
  • 113 to 145 GB "builds." The same report says fake files of these sizes have spread on torrent sites, and some were linked to malware.
  • Store page placeholders. One guide site says an Xbox listing showed a tiny placeholder size. A game this large cannot be that small, so ignore it.
  • 150 to 200 GB estimates. Fans guess from Rockstar's earlier games. That is an estimate, not information.

PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S

PS5 Pro

PlayStation's page lists the game as "PS5 Pro Enhanced". That is all it says. It does not list a resolution, frame rate or ray tracing feature. These claims are rumors and not official:

  • On August 29, 2026, Vice covered a claim by a gaming personality that the game will hit 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. Vice told readers to be very skeptical, and Rockstar has not announced a 60 FPS mode.
  • On September 5, 2026, TweakTown covered leaked Sony tag guidelines that point to 4K or 60 FPS targets. The site noted these are not official and are not about GTA 6 specifically. It also said the PS5 Pro's processor makes stable 60 FPS in a huge open world unlikely.

PS5 and Xbox

Press who saw hands-off previews in August reported 30 FPS on PS5, and Rockstar did not rule out a 60 FPS mode. Nothing official is listed for Xbox Series X versus Series S, such as resolution or storage use. Expect the Series S to be the weaker box, but do not assume numbers.

Is there a PC version? What about requirements?

No PC version is announced. Rockstar's page and support page list only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. So there are no official PC requirements: no minimum CPU, no recommended GPU, no storage figure. Sites that publish "GTA 6 system requirements" tables are guessing.

The rumor mill is active. In April 2026, an X account claimed a PC date in February 2027, and Gfinity told readers to take it with a grain of salt. A GamesBeat report on October 13, 2026, citing anonymous sources, pointed to early 2027. Neither is confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. Take-Two's CEO has called PC important in general, but that is not a GTA VI promise. Details are in our GTA 6 PC release guide.

How much free space should you prepare?

Because the size is unknown, think in safe buffers. This is our suggestion, not a Rockstar number.

  1. Open your console's storage settings and note free space. Do it on PS5 under Settings, Storage, and on Xbox under Settings, System, Storage devices.
  2. Aim for 250 GB free before November 12. That covers a reported 200 GB build size plus room for a day-one update. If the real size is smaller, you simply have spare room.
  3. Delete games you finished, old captures and unused demos. You can reinstall purchased games later from your library.
  4. Check your internet cap. A 200 GB download can break a monthly data limit. Ask your parents or provider.
  5. Know your storage type. Many consoles need approved internal or expansion storage to play new games. Read your console maker's storage help page before buying a drive, and wait for the official size first.
  6. Start preload when it opens on November 12, using a wired connection if you can.

Common mistakes

  • Buying a big SSD or a new console for a size or mode nobody has confirmed.
  • Trusting a "system requirements" table for a game with no PC version.
  • Downloading a "leaked build" to test your space. It can carry malware.
  • Thinking preload equals early play. It does not.

FAQ

How big is the GTA 6 install size?

Rockstar has not announced it. A claim of over 200 GB comes from a leaked development build and is unconfirmed. The retail size could be different, so wait for an official store page.

Does GTA 6 run on PS5 Pro?

PlayStation lists the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but it does not explain what the upgrade includes. A 60 FPS mode on PS5 Pro is a rumor, not an announcement.

What are the GTA 6 PC system requirements?

There are none, because no PC version is announced. Any table you see online is a guess. Reports of a PC release in 2027 are unconfirmed rumors.

How much space should I free up for GTA 6?

As a safe buffer, aim for about 250 GB free before preload opens on November 12, 2026. That is our suggestion, not a Rockstar requirement, and the real size may be smaller.

Can I play GTA 6 from a physical copy without downloading?

No. Rockstar says the box contains a download code and no disc, so you need the same free space as a digital buyer.
